Description:

APOLLO IS LOCATED IN PRINCE FREDERICK, MD.

Hello, my name is Apollo and my foster mom says I am approximately 3 years old.  I have been with my foster family for almost 2 months and in that time I have learned SO much!  I know how to sit and come when I am called.  I walk well on a leash and am not bothered at all by the other dogs in my neighborhood that say not so nice things when I walk by.  I just look at them and keep walking - they’re not going to bring me down.  I love my foster sisters - one is medium size and one is pretty little, she is feisty, but I don’t pay her any attention.  My foster family includes one human kid, who is 11 years old, and I absolutely love her!  She has friends that come to visit and we run and play in the back yard together.  It's a blast!  One of my all-time favorite things to do with my foster family is cuddle on the floor.  I like to try and be the size of my little sister and climb in their laps, but for some reason, I don’t fit.

What I have also learned about myself is that I do not like to be alone.  My foster mom has me on these meds called Prozac and leaves a radio on for me, which has really helped my separation anxiety.   I now go in my crate, which is next to my sisters, and sleep some while mom is away.   I still don’t like being alone and would prefer to have someone home with me a lot, to help with my anxiety, and another dog to keep me company.

Oh, and one more thing, my foster family says I am pretty amazing and that I will make someone a wonderful best friend.  Could that be you???

Likes:  Apollo is such a love bug and wants nothing more than to be petted and cuddled by you.  He likes walks and to explore different areasHe likes the company of other dogs, medium to large.

Dislikes: Apollo is not a fan of being left alone, loud noises or raised voices.

Personality: Apollo is a very friendly loveable guy.  He wants to be next to you every chance he can get.  He is not a huge player, but is learning that toys can be fun.  He is a low key boy, with short bursts of energy.  He does love to run and stretch his long legs out, when he gets the chance.

Temperament: He is very sweet!!  He can be a bit pushy sometimes, when he wants attention but listens well.  He is a little jumpy with fast movements and requires some reassurance but recovers quickly.  He seems to love all people and is not really fazed by the dogs he has met so far.

Energy level:  Moderate to Low.  Apollo loves to cuddle and lay next to you.  He likes walks and to explore as well, so he is a good mix.

Favorite activities:  Being petted and adored.  He likes walks and to be taken everywhere you go.

Good with cats, dogs, and kids (over 6)?:   Apollo likes the company of other dogs.  He does not seem to mind what size they are, however he does connect better with medium to large dogs.  He has not been exposed to cats while in foster care, however he is said to be good with them.  Apollo seems to love kids of all ages.

Not good with:  Loud noises or being left alone for long periods of time.

Housetrained:  Yes!

Crate trained:  Yes, however he is in a very large crate, 4 foot by 4 foot.

Requires a fenced yard (physical fence and/or invisible fence)?  Apollo likes to explore and stretch his legs out sometimes so having a fenced in yard would be preferred.

Walks well on a leash?  Yes, very well.

Challenges:  Apollo is a very sweet lovable boy but has some separation anxiety.  It is currently being handled with medication, a calming collar and music being played while gone.  He has made so much progress with it and is getting better every day.  With the right person/family willing to work with him, it will hopefully continue to get better.

Any Medical issues?  Apollo is on medication for separation anxiety.

What would be the best kind of home?  The best home for Apollo would be one where someone is home most of the time, or is willing to take him with them everywhere they go.  He craves attention and love.  He would do best with another dog companion to keep him company.   He is such a sweet, loving, goofy, and friendly dog, an all-around amazing boy!!
