Description:
Goofy is a playful 2-year-old English Mastiff.. He is housetrained. He is working on good crate behaviors although he will be vocal about being in there if he thinks he is all alone. He enters his crate well if you have a treat for him! He sleeps through the night. He loves to chew and can have a powerful grip on his favorite things. He is a very strong, very tall fellow who hasn’t had much training in leaving things alone on counters and shelves. Goofy knows “sit,” “down,” “head down,” and is working on “wait”, “drop it”, and “leave it.” He came to us from New Jersey and is healthy and ready to be your new best friend. He adores his “people” and in true mastiff form, he always wants to be by your side. Goofy loves a consistent schedule. He knows when it is time to eat, sleep, play, pee, or poop!!! Likes: Goofy likes to go on walks. He is doing well walking without pulling while wearing a harness. He pulls a bit with a martingale but is making good progress. He likes pats on his head and “kisses” from his human. Goofy LOVES to drink from a hose nozzle. He loves to ferret out food wherever it is stored. He is a highly intelligent dog who learns quickly. Dislikes: Goofy does NOT like getting his feet wet. He hates riding in the car and may chew through restraints, leashes, and tethers. He does not enjoy getting his nails clipped. Personality: Goofy’s personality is emerging. He warms up to anyone quickly, especially if they have treats. Temperament: Goofy is generally laid back. He allows his mouth, ears, and feet to be checked daily. He does not enjoy getting his nails clipped. He has lots of hiding places in his mouth for pills to spit out later…but he devours them if they are placed on his food! He has not gone to the vet from foster care yet. He can be strong-willed when he wants something he shouldn’t have, but is doing much better now he knows some commands. Energy level: Goofy goes on 3-5 half-mile walks each day. He then sleeps until his next walk! He is very energetic in his awake time and sleeps and dreams while waiting for his next meal! Favorite activities: Goofy hasn’t had too many activities. He does like to walk, chew sticks, and nibble on grass. Good with cats, dogs, and kids over 6? Goofy has watched the cats and does not appear to be bothered by them. While outside he ignores squirrels and birds and chipmunks. He has not been around children. Goofy is learning to walk with another dog. He was tested dog-friendly. Not good with: Nails being clipped. Housetrained: Goofy is house-trained in regards to bathroom habits. He is being trained to leave things alone on surfaces, cracks, or crevices in a home. He is a counter-surfer. Crate trained: Yes. Challenges: Goofy may need a fenced in yard unless his forever family is committed several daily walks; shows to currently be toy “protective” (no growling or snipping); and he would definitely get in the trash. He doesn’t seem to have an overreaction to separation. He vocalizes his displeasure but does settle down in his crate. Any Medical issues? Currently on flea and tick preventative. NO other meds. Up to date on vaccines. What would be the best kind of home? Currently, the best home situation for Goofy would be one that would continue training his to be a house-dog with manners. He is very strong physically and can be strong-willed. He will need adopters who have the physical ability to care for him and continue his training. Fostered in Warfordsburg, PA.
