Description:
Gus is a 9-month-old Great Dane puppy. He was surrendered to Mastiffs to Mutts due to the family being severely allergic. He is scared of new people, so he will need someone that will begin working with him immediately to socialize him and show him that people are not scary. Due to his initial fear of people, an adopter will need a 5ft foot fence minimum with a 6ft fence preferred. Unfortunately, he has seperation anxiety when people leave and will bark and whine when left alone. He needs a home that someone is home often, works from home or can rearrange their schedule until he is settled in and has overcome people leaving the home. Due to this, he also needs to be placed with a confident dog companion to show him the ropes and help ease his anxiety when people leave. He is not neutered and will be adopted out on a Foster to Adopt basis due to being young and needing to allow his body to grow properly. Likes: Food and Toys Dislikes: New People (very scared of strangers and new things) Personality: Playful puppy once he comes out of his shell. His zoomies are hilarious, and he loves being with his people. A typical Velcro Great Dane. Temperament: Gus is a very anxious dog currently when left alone, with the proper socialization and training he should come out of his shell and settle in nicely. He is extremely affectionate and loves nothing more than lounging with his humans. Energy level: Typical Great Dane puppy, has spurts of hilarious zoomies but settles down nicely. Would do best with a dog that has a similar play style and willing to play with a dog of his size, he is very tall and lanky. Favorite activities: playing and lounging with his people once he trusts them and feels safe. Good with: His current foster family has a small farm, he has been good with all the animals, but would need someone to properly introduce him to animals to show him they are not toys but friends. He is very interested in playing with them and just doesn’t understand he is much bigger than them. Gus would do best with a confident dog companion to show him that life isn’t as scary as he thinks. He has been around children in his original home. Not good with: Strangers. He is not aggressive at all but just scared. People are scary when he first meets them, once he has someone to trust, he trusts the new people quicker but still is unsure of them. Housetrained: Yes! Crate trained: Yes! But, does not like being left alone he will whine and bark. But goes in the crate very willingly and is his safe zone when he is extremely scared. He does best with his crate in a safe quiet area of the home so he can settle in and come out when he feels safe. Challenges: His fear of new people and his separation anxiety. He will need to have proper socialization and training so he prospers in a home. Any Medical issues? None at this time, he is not neutered because of his age. Giant breeds need more time for their bones to develop. He would do best in a home that has a confident dog that will show Gus the ways of the world. He needs a 5ft or 6ft fenced in yard because when he is scared he will run and try to get away from whatever is scary. This means that he could potentially slip his collar or harness and it wouldn’t be safe for him to be running freely. He would do best with a family that doesn’t work a full day but is home throughout the day. Someone working from home would be great. Overall, Gus is a very loving adorable puppy and with the proper home and socialization will prosper. Fostered in Easton, PA.
