Description:
Brief description: Khloe is an absolute sweetheart. She is a 150 lbs (slightly overweight) 6 year old brindle English Mastiff who is house trained. She sleeps well through the night, preferably in a bed, but also will sleep on her own dog bed. She has no problems being left alone, except the occasional accident if left too long. Her previous owner was home all day so she is getting used to longer periods alone. She came to us from Virginia and generally healthy as far as we know, but does have a blind spot in her right eye from an accident when she was a puppy. She does have some vision out of that eye. She walks well on a leash, but does like to sniff wildlife and sometimes barks at deer, but she doesn’t pull very hard or try to chase. Likes: She loves bones, cuddles, scratches, being near people, more cuddles, going for walks and cheese. She doesn’t seem to understand toys, but she does like bones and balls. Dislikes: We are told she is afraid of thunderstorms, and she doesn’t love vacuums, but she just leaves the room. Personality: Khloe is very sweet and gentle and always wagging her tail. She is eager to please but she doesn’t always understand commands, she is working on that. She seems to gets confused when given commands, and we think she simply doesn’t know many, or know what we want, but she really wants to please and is learning quickly. She is a Velcro dog for sure and follows you everywhere. She’s happiest when she’s near people, but is ok on her own as well. She just goes to sleep. She doesn’t chew or get into the trash, though she will sniff the edge of the counter. Temperament: She greets everyone she meets with big tail wags and gentle nudges for scratches. She lets us handle her very well, brush her and loves being pet all over including feet, ears etc., but we haven’t yet clipped her nails. They are talons good luck. Energy level: Khloe likes being outside a lot and going for short walks but is basically a couch potato. Favorite activities: Sleeping, cuddling, being petted Good with: She is great with cats, but she will play chase them gently. She is getting on very well with our own female English Mastiff and has taken a submissive role in our house. She grew up with dogs, cats and children. She doesn’t bark at strangers approaching the house, she greets them happily. She seems to like men almost as much if not more than women, but she basically likes anyone who is willing to give her some affection. She is very gentle when taking treats as well and uses her lips and tongue only. Not good with: She was surrendered because she snapped at the previous owner’s 18 month old when the toddler surprised her on her right side (with bad eye sight). She immediately licked the child when she realized who it was, but the owner were not comfortable keeping her. She also lived with a three and seven year-old, but would probably be best off with older children. She has lived with other dogs, loves our dog, but did get slightly aggressive (barked loudly and started to lunge but was easily pulled away) at the neighbor’s boxer who ran at her, from behind its fence, snarling. Housetrained: Yes Crate trained: Not that I am aware of Challenges: She has been a super Velcro dog, which may be due to missing her family. She should be homed with someone who is looking for that and has a lot of time for her. She would be happier to not be left alone too long even though she is ok on her own. Since we have had her we have had to encourage her to eat. We feed the dogs twice a day, and we think she was used to grazing, but given our other dog will eat her food, we have just had to coax her a little to finish. Any Medical issues? We have not been to the vet yet. She does have scar tissue in her right eye as noted above and had limited vision out of that eye. What would be the best kind of home? Khloe likes other animals very much, and would do well in a home with people and animals to cuddle. She needs someone who has the time to give her lots of affection, and probably let her cuddle on the couch. She loves nothing more than to sleep with her head in your lap. She would enjoy a fenced yard where she can meander around and sniff the smells, though she is great on a leash. Fostered in Norristown, PA.
